Filefront interviews RotterdaM and HasuObs

While everyone is still on a Terranific high, the great guys from Filefront have decided to talk to the guys who eat, live and breathe StarCraft 2; none other than Team Razer‘s RotterdaM and HasuObs. Learn more about their StarCraft 2 strategies and maybe you can start charting your way to the Diamond League.

Here is an excerpt from the interview with RotterdaM:

FF: Is there a certain faction for each type of player, or can any player play any faction well?
I think there is a factor. It’s in my nature to be aggressive so Zerg or Protoss definitely fits best for me. It all depends on the play style you prefer but of course the choice is open for all. At the end of the day, if I started out as a Terran player, I don’t think I would be any worse off as compared to me now as a Protoss player. I would probably enjoy the game less though.

FF: Do you have any general tips for victory?
Scout well. Scouting is by far the most important aspect in any RTS. Other than that, train hard and believe in yoursel

Swifty skates, jet skiis and kicks butt

Interview with Robert “Razerguy” Krakoff

Game Guru from India recently had time to chat with our big man, Robert “Razerguy” Krakoff, for some insights on where Razer stands in the world of gaming and our venture into motion sensing gaming and peripherals. Below are excerpts from the interview:

GG: Can you elaborate on the collaboration with Sixense for motion sensing and gesture recognition controller technology for the PC? It brings to mind Sony’s Motion Controller for PS3, any comments?

RK: This technology marks the next step in user interface technologies for gaming on the PC. Razer and Sixense scientists and engineers along with select PC OEM partners are working on an ultra-precise one-to-one motion sensing hardware that uses electromagnetic fields to track precise movements along all six axes for use in current and future generation PC games. The absolute controller position is tracked to within a mere millimeter for positioning and to a degree for orientation.

GG: Will the new controller also have force feedback?

RK: Nothing is firm at this time, but the plans are yes it will.

GG: Will this technology be useful for things other than gaming? (like in the fields of medicine, defense, etc.)

RK: Gaming is our primary focus. Based on the way Razer approaches the hardware and finds methods to enhance tracking and latency, there should be no limitations for gaming or other applications. For Razer, we will be happy to make a successful gaming hardware since that is the business we know and love.

Razer Moray: Frequency Response Explained

 

When buying a pair of earphones, frequency response seems to be the one thing most of us look at when standing along the isles at our nearest IT shop, scratching our heads over all those numbers under the technical specifications. Since most of us are not audiophiles that understand the techie details, let’s begin looking at what you need to know.

The human ear can only pick up sounds between 20-20,000Hz theoretically so anything that falls lower than the infrasonic range of below 20hz is basically not picked up by the human hear (meaning if you have a infrasonic range of 14hz in a pair of $700 headphones, your pet puppy will be able to fully appreciate the audio clarity more than you do). This is the same for the ultrasonic range of above 20,000Hz. For most earphone manufacturers, 18-22,000Hz or 20-20,000Hz is the technical range that most stereo drivers can handle. So even for the Razer Moray, 18-22,000Hz is being delivered by the earphones.

The audio driver in the Moray achieves a frequency response of 18-22,000Hz as well technically but during the testing process for the Moray, we’ve taken the addition step of optimizing audio for our gamers. The range that most sounds commonly fall within is between 500-11,000Hz. Within the class of audio drivers the Moray is in, we wanted to improve the experience of the average gamer so during development of the Moray, audio quality was optimized for 20-11000, where most music and gaming audio falls within. This means that you’ll hear good quality audio MOST of the time, rather than hear average audio quality ALL the time.

The average person that buys earphones is, unfortunately, usually not informed of this. So all they look at is freq response because hey, the bigger the number, the better right? So before you take a leap of faith and plonk down your hard earned money on an expensive pair of earphones, give the Razer Moray a test drive. You might be pleasantly surprised by the audio quality of this more affordable product.
