Razer at Gamescom 2010

Have you ever tried to slow down or pause the video just to have a better look at our hot girls on stage? No? Well, yeah. We neither.

Gamescom Final Recap with Razer|Mjolnir and Razer|furryfish*

Five days. Five days of gaming, rocking music, and good ol’ fashion ownage. This has been an amazing show for us. It has been great to see people get their hands on the Razer BlackWidow for the first time as well as the Razer Onza, the Razer Orca, and the Razer StarCraft 2 hardware line. On top of that, we had a constant live stream of on stage competitions, music, tons of giveaways and one badass Razer press conference. Oh, and the ESL was there in force. Total madness, my friends. As nuts as it sounds, I am surprised we packed it all into one show.

Razer|furryfish* has the final ESL recap for us.

Last Day @ ESL 2010

Quake Live 3rd/4th Placing : av3k vs cooller

ESL Quake Live : av3k, intensely microing during his match against Cooller as his coach watches on

All I can say is, av3k played like a monster. Cooller put up a great fight himself, fighting back to gain 4 kills in the last 30 seconds of a game in a bid to win the round.

Av3k lost a round to Cooller, but picked up his pace in the following rounds to put Cooller in 4th place with a score of 3:1.

StarCraft II Finals : mouz. MorroW vs IdrA

ESL StarCraft II : MorroW on the big screen as he plays his match

Although IdrA was the favourite to win this, MorroW took the title quite comfortably with a 3:1 win over IdrA. Some may say that the race imbalance helped MorroW somewhat (he played Terran, whereas IdrA chose Zerg), but I believe that MorroW won because he successfully played mind games with his opponent.

Rather than using a strategy that he had practiced and was comfortable with, he decided to mix it up and take the chance. The results speak for themselves.

I always love to see the dark horse take the championship title home, but this particular win is all the sweeter, because MorroW is our very own sponsored gamer.

Cheers to the winner of the first official StarCraft II LAN tournament – MorroW!

And here’s to Carmac from ESL, without whom, alot of things would not be possible.

Wrap Up

Sadly, all good things must come to an end…

Departing guests walking down an empty corridor
-Razer|furryfish*
The awesome team behind the Razer Booth (okay… some were up infront of the booth)
-Razer|furryfish*
The live stream nerve center that kept the show running like clockwork. Video/audio editing bay, full lighting control, network control, three camera feeds…It was a mini TV studio.
-Razer|Molnir
I can’t wait to see this keyboard hit the shelves and here what you think. I loved the moments where I could break off and game a little before the rush hit.
-Razer|Mjolnir
The lesser seen Razer business center booth was tucked away from the public. That doesn’t mean is was any less cool looking.
-Razer|Mjolnir
It was good to escape up here and chat it up with the press that came through…of course, I usually just sat there nodding blankly like a bobble head since my grasp on the German language loose at best.
-Razer|Mjolnir
The meeting of the minds. The Razer Community team representing Asia Pacific, EU, and the US.
-Razer|Mjolnir
After the doors were closed, there was virtually no trace that people had ever been there….none
-Razer|Mjolnir
What’s the point of having a killer sound system and a stage if you can’t use it after hours? Hey, was geht ab? Wir feiern die ganze Nacht!
-Razer|Mjolnir
Hands down, the biggest lit Razer logo we’ve ever made.
-Razer|Mjolnir
A last look at the Razer booth [aside : this is the mess that the team has to clear up daily after the show has been closed to public] That’s Akin in the foreground, our lively Razer host, who always does such a great job getting the crow excited.
-Razer|furryfish*
Gamescom 2010, it’s been real. I can’t think of a more fitting end to a positively awesome show with amazing people than to kick back, enjoy a weissbier, and watch the sun set over the Kölner Dom. Prost!
-Razer|Mjolnir

PS: Last Recap’s contest winner was David Mihocik. Congrats man, you get a Moray+.

Gamescom Recap Night 4 with Razer|Mjolnir and Razer|furryfish*

Shows like these are never just contained to the booth. Razer|furryfish* and I dipped out last night to pay a visit to our friends at the ESL. They didn’t disappoint. Here is the photo recap of what happens when the doors close and the music is cranked.

Razer|furryfish*

This is one night, where you’d rather be a loser than a winner.

Why?

Because the ESL finals are tomorrow, but the ESL party is tonight!

So all the unfortunate finalists have to lay off the alcohol and sleep early for their games tomorrow.

This is for YOU, who can’t be there. As they say, a picture says a thousand words… so without further ado…

ESL Party, here we go! (taken with long exposure)

Party in the comments

Congrats to Joel Ahn for taking home a Razer Moray+ from yesterday’s post. For today’s question, tell me what games you plan on playing with the Razer Onza. PC? Console? It does both. So many choices. We’ve got another Razer Moray+ on the line for the chosen winner. Answer below and remember to tune into our live feed that will be running the whole whole show.

Have you ever tried Boiled Kestrel? Not a lot of meat but if you line four or so on a stick and then submerge it, they are delicious. Cut up some carrots and potatoes for added flavor.

Gamescom Recap Day 3 with Razer|Mjolnir and Razer|furryfish*

In the midst of all the chaos and swag, sometimes you can lose sight of the forest through the trees – or in this case, the spider through the web. This show has been all about letting the public log some playtime on the the Razer BlackWidow. The crisp click of the keys has become a pleasant ambient sound throughout our booth. Let’s take a look at what kind of show our newest keyboard has been having. If you have not fully read up on the torrent of information we have prepared for you on this subject, please go here.

Razerguy kicked it off.
Razer|Edge brought it home.
The game changing mechanical keyboard that is bringing a whole new style of play to the Razer line. The keys have a distinctive tactile feel while only requiring half the distance of a regular keyboard to actuate.
Each key has its own individual led pushing five different lighting profiles. That means this is one of the brightest, eye grabbing keyboards we have ever made.
If you have the means, i.e you are at Gamescom, you really need to get over and test one of these keyboards out. We’ve got them set up on all our stations. Feeling is believing.
One of the great features of the BlackWidow is its ability to record macros on the fly. This means that even in game, creating a timed macro is as easy as hitting record and pounding it out. We’ve even added five keys on the side of the board to house your freshly microed macros.
You’ll know the macro is recording when the light in the top right comes on. The whole process is incredibly intuitive and painless.
Here’s Rottderdam from Serious Gaming’s taking it through its paces. It’s pro players like him who are critical to our testing and design process.

ESL Day 3

ESL TV set up, with our StarCraft II products showcased right next to it

Quake Live Action : Playoffs

av3k warming up for his quarterfinal match – Quake Live

Now that we’re into the playoffs, each matchup takes the best of 5, on different maps each round.

noctis may have proven to be able to beat av3k in 2 of the 5 rounds, but if you take a closer look at the score, av3k’s wins with insane frag differences (think 9 frags more), whereas noctis really had to work hard for his 2 wins (think 2 frag differences).

I managed to get on stage to photograph av3k in action, with the help of the obliging ESL staff.

av3k!! I see your Razer Goliathus and mouse… But… Where is your keyboard?!
Here is how av3k really uses his keyboard. Off his lap!

av3k meets k1llsen tomorrow in the semi-final match which is happening on Saturday (21 August 2010) morning at 1150 (CEST).

Before that, however, our talented Russian pro-gamer - Cooller – will be facing DaHang in the quarter-finals at 1000 (CEST), so drop by the ESL gaming arena and cheer Team Razer on!

For those who cannot be there,  DO try to catch one of the livestreams on ESL TV!

To cap it all off : Prizes and Hookups.

Congrats to Linda S Davison for taking home a Razer Moray+ from yesterday’s post. For today’s question, tell me what games you plan on playing with the Razer BlackWidow and why. We’ve got another Razer Moray+ on the line for the chosen winner. Answer below and remember to tune into our live feed that will be running the whole whole show.

Gamescom Recap Day 2 with Razer|Mjolnir and Razer|furryfish*

Gaming, beer, and pretzels. I have found a new appreciation for all three since I set foot in this glorious country. The latter two have stood on their on merit unchanged for centuries. The recipe for gaming, however, has seen some inspired reinterpretation at the hands of our Razer master chefs over the past few days. Below, I shall walk you through still shots of the day’s happenings, garnished, of course, with the witty quips of your ever humble pwnage provider, moi.

But first, Razer|furryfish* is going to catch us up on the eSports highlights form the Razer sponsored ESL.

Hang on to your fork, here comes the main course.

the ESL stage @ gamescom – beautiful, large, and graced with our logo

ESL Day 2

there’s nothing quite like a massive, spontaneously cheering crowd to get the energy up

It has been a great day for our Quake Live sponsored pro-gamers, av3k and Cooller. Both have topped their groups to make it to the quarter-finals on Friday.

The StarCraftII players however, weren’t as fortunate this season round. Better luck next time guys! Everyone has an off-day now and then!

Anyhow, I was stoked to be able to catch 2 stage matches featuring our sponsored gamers, Cooller and HasuObs.

Quake Live : Cooller VS k1llsen

Cooller being interviewed on stage for the live telecast

Cooller dominated the game right from the start, controlling all the vital item spawns. And I would expect no less from a player who has countless championship titles to his name.

Cooller walked away from the stage, clearly the winner, with a kill difference of 9:2 and 10:2. He has also topped his bracket with an unbroken streak.

I don’t know about you, but we’re ready to put on money on Cooller cruising all the way to the top!

prelude to the StarCraftII match (HasuObs vs dimaga)

StarCraft II : HasuObs (protoss) VS dimaga (zerg)

HasuObs giving a brief introduction of himself before the match

With a 2nd and 4th place win in StarCraftII beta competitions held earlier this year, HasuObs was one of the favourites to advance in his group. As one of the 16 invited players for the world’s first major live StarCraftII LAN competition, HasuObs had a great run against dimaga, winning him decisively 2-0. HasuObs ended the first game pretty quickly after destroying many of dimaga’s attempts to plant a nydus seed in his base.

The second game was closer, but HasuObs’ psionic storm and colossus proved to be too much for the massed roaches and hydras. Dimaga put up a pretty good fight, playing more conservatively and defending really well, but it was HasuObs who won the stagematch.

Second course

Meanwhile at the Hall of Justice! Our heroes lay plans for the day ahead while filling in the holes from the previous night.
Its all about the hardware. All of our products are tools crafted for a specific style of play. The more our line expands, the more specialized our game becomes.
It’s a little nerve wracking putting a product out there for the first time and watching how people react. Luckily, the product we put out was the Razer BlackWidow and the public was hardcore gamers. There’s no better match than that.
Our triple headed snake logo glowing through the smoke. I just love this shot.
We received a little help showing off our SC2 line up. Unfortunately they would not let me try on the armor.
Did we launch a new mouse or a car? Enjoy these next few shots of our StarCraft 2 lineup.
The new Razer BlackWidow is at the booth ready to be taken for a spin. The feedback has been amazing.
The Hexapod is not a machine to be messed with. Really cool to look at, terrifying if made angry. We were lucky it walked the BlackWidow on stage and didn’t flip out and kill someone.
The gamers coming by the booth have been great. We’ve had a ton of people coming through and getting their hands on the Razer Onza and BlackWidow for the first time.
And when we say a ton, we mean an absolute wave.
…tsunami even…they keep coming.
Though we have systems in place to handle such crowds.
Awesome awesome systems.

And for dessert? Yesterday’s recap winner, Steven Sande. Congrats on taking home a Razer Orca. For today’s question, tell me something you saw in the esports coverage (either our live stream or the ESL) that blew you away. Winner will take home a Razer Moray+. Answer below and remember to tune into our live feed going on for the whole show.
