Locking in the Sound: Razer Electra

Razer Electra

Denizens of Razer – the time has come to break forth from your LCD lit cavern-of-own, mobilize your media, and take your swag to the streets. The slick new Razer Electra Headset has arrived and is primed for the raucous urban outdoors. These cans are designed to keep your noise choice, pure, and unadulterated by unwanted outside cacophonous contributions.

Whether you are talking, rocking, or gaming on your mobile device of choice, the Razer Electra delivers deep-thumping bass and unparalleled sonic clarity while tuning out that pesky environmental sound.

The Electra is crafted for maximum comfort – a lightweight body with plush leatherette ear-cups works perfectly for extended audio adventures. Interchangeable audio cables give you the choice between keeping your sounds uninterrupted or staying connected with the inline mic. Either way, style never sounded so good.

I definitely like the look of these (very sleek). they look very interesting, im looking forward to seeing them when they come out. im tempted to just gte them as soon as they do come out. i love RAZER products!

  • Jacky Tan

Nice, but would appreicate any updates on the post as to how the Mic would work, like is it detachable, a pull out? or just in built inside the headset?

  • EpicXion

According to the post on Engadget
“ To sweeten the deal, you’ll also get two detachable cables, one of which has an inline mic; perfect for on-the-go phone calls while your heading to 7-11 for Slurpee-fuel, or a bit of TeamSpeaking when your Carcharias get lost.”

  • Van03_OneClick

    I want that :D

  • Thiago Amaro

I bought one and plug the connector into all of my PC’s 3.5mm jacks, no one of them recognizes the phone’s mic, what should I do? I’ve read the FAQ and have no idea about what a combined inline/output 3.5mm jack would be… Never heard of that before

  • Jmeredith88

I’m having the same problem. Works great with my phone but I bought these for gaming. Did you figure it out? Please let me know if you did or when you do… Thanks!

  • Jmeredith88

I may try this if I cannot get an answer…
SF Cable, 3.5mm Female to 2 3.5mm Male Stereo Splitter Cable fromhttp://www.amazon.com/SF-Cable-Female-Stereo-Splitter/dp/B0016LDZ36

  • Noobyplayer

is anyone having static sounds on the headphones?

  • RaZza

i bought electra and went on skype but my mic wasn’t work.help????

  • Jmeredith88

I’m starting to regret this purchase… i got the splitter and the sound quality sux. Still no mic usage eithee

  • Jmeredith88

Seriously I regret this purchase 100% and will probably be the last thing I ever purchase from Razer.

I’ve gone through three splitters (exactly what was recommended in the forums) and than email tech support and finds out I need something different. I had less trouble than my $15 headset from walmart… This was his reply…

“The overall issue your encountering is not solvable with the equipment
that you currently have. The Electra has a TRRS connector which does not
work correctly with the splitters from Radioshack, which are designed
for TRS connectors. In order to do what you desire to get done you will
have one of two options. The first is to find a splitter that has a TRRS
female connector converts to either two TRS connectors(standard 3.5mm
stereo connector) or will have a TRRS female connector that converts to a
TS male(3.5mm mono) and TSR male(3.5mm stereo). The other option you
have, is to use a sound card that supports the TRRS connection type. We
unfortunately do not have information as to where you can purchase items
to use either of these options but this would my best suggestion to
    you.”

I’m getting tired of looking and don’t want to keep buying splitters if it is going to sacrifice sound quality and/or not work. Razer should seriously send this with the headset or offer it to purchase on their website. I am going to bet more than 50% of people will have this issue…

    I hate you Razer.

  • Thiago Amaro

I’m from Brazil and I have also bought a lot of splitters, but until now, nothing works. I even tried to purchase a cable that is a 3.5mm jack female -> usb male, but windows doesn’t even recognizes the phone that way.
I bought the phone for gaming and having it for  not even 2 weeks I’m already disappointed and regret with my purchase.
Even if Razer starts to sell the correct splitter on their website would not help me, since they do not ship to my country, what sucks.
They should just recall it and send a Carcharias to the unhappy people who bought these failing headsets, that’s my opinion.

  • Jmeredith88

Razer did an awesome job at taking care of the situation… thank-you customer care. I just ordered a second headset and will continue to purchase razer products…

  • Xecyc

Perfect product as usual. I got mine 1 month ago and untill now I’m very happy with my purchase.

  • Dfafsdgf

The sound is great, but it’s not meant at all for using on a regular PC with different connectors for mic and headphone. I bought a splitter online, and the jack was too big for it.

  • Daviebin

I can’t find a TRRS splitter anywhere!!!!!! These are sold as a gaming head set so why the f*$k do they not work???

Do not purchase this if you are under the impression this is a gaming headset, as advertised!!!

I purchased this along with a nostromo (my second mind you, since the first one didn’t last long), and was sorely disjointed to see it simply doesn’t work (microphone wise), ‘out of the box’.

You’re required to purchase a splitter seperately if you plan to use the microphone function on your pc.. An item that SHOULD have been included by razer, especially when the product is being sold under the guise of a ‘gaming headset’.

I’ve purchased two splitters, and neither work. Apparently its incredibly picky in regards to what splitter you purchase, requiring a splitter that has a TRRS female connector. These things are HARD to find, dont expect to pick one up at your local radioshack either.

All in all, incredibly dissapointed and ripped off. Razer need to advertise or warn consumers about this product. Hell even the headsets from turtlebeach provide splitters for PC functionality. Why mislead us, then rip us off?

Pissed off customer, gone through 2 razer naga’s, 2 nostromo’s, and my first… and last headset.

Although i agree with everyone that they should’ve provided a splitter with it, the reason they didn’t is because its for mobile gaming/phone use.

  • Socks

what was thier solution? Im going nuts trying to get a splitter

  • JPNapster

Headset is working, after alot of mucking around! Not a bad headset just wish Razer would rather advertise it as an Mobile Device Headset than a Gaming Headset.

This is what i have done…

  • J-Worker

I’m also disappointed that this otherwise fantastic headset can’t be used on a PC. Another issue I have noticed is static sound when plugged into the PC. I noticed that someone else here also mentioned this. Razer should supply a splitter with this headset. That would solve the problem. I guess that the reason why they don’t supply a splitter is … there isn’t one in the world that works. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  • Exonepiece

is the best for headset :) ,,

  • Pissed Customer

THEN WHY THE FUCK, EXCUSE MY FRENCH, DOES IT SAY IT IS A GAMING HEADSET ON THE BOX?

  • Pissed Customer

I’m returning this product for sure.

  • Icetempest

Because some people do not read the online item description that states thats for MOBILE gaming.

  • Victus

Got this after my previous headset/mic died on me.  Heard that Razer was a brand to be trusted.  God, was that ever so wrong.  This was advertised as a gaming headset, and the I had to buy several splitters just trying to get the damned mic to work.  I finally get it working, and I got an annoying, very loud static in the right speaker now.  Razer, you need to learn to properly advertise.  If it’s for mobile gaming, don’t say it’s a gaming headset.  Say it’s a mobile gaming headset.  Worst money I ever spent on a headset.
